Re-Living Christmas: Cherished moments and memories #15

Hahaha…πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‡

This memory made me laugh…
And I’m actually smiling as I write this.
I don’t know why it has stuck with me
This long,
But, as I recall it now,
The most gifts I ever got
As a kid
During Christmas,
Were Pants.
I kid you not!
Pants!
Pairs and pairs of them! —
Mostly, from my sisters and aunts (hahaha!).
Everything else came in singles!
Not that I’m complaining,
After all, this was about the only time
Anyone remembered
That I needed pants,
And by then,
The last year’s lot would be yellowed and grey,
If not hanging by the threads!
Back then, we saved all gifts
For Christmas Day itself,
And come that day…my…Oh my…
I would be all shiny
From head to toe —
New socks,
New shoes,
New pants,
New trousers,
New vest,
New shirt,
New handkerchief (I’m not joking!),
And sometimes,
A new cap or jacket
And a pair of goggles!
If you had been fortunate
To see me on Christmas Day
I swear you would have struggled
To recognize me,
Even if i had slept in your home…
Coz’ I was all but born again!
