What's the richer experience: Rootedness or Rootlessness?

It’s a story
that has been told many times,
And I know
you must have heard it before
Because it
was in the news
Just the
other day.
It’s the
story about people
Moving from
place to place
In search
for pasture.
We call them
pastoralists,
But I prefer
nomads.
I get the sense
That for a long
time
We have told this story from one perspective:
From outside
in.
Makes you
wonder;
How do those
who practice it experience it?
Do we really
know what it feels like to be a nomad?
Is what we
know the full story?
Do we even see
life through the same lens?
I suspect
not!
I’m told
that Gypsies have a very different view of life;
Firstly, they
don’t consider themselves as belonging to any place;
Theirs is a cultural
rebellion against settlement.
Second, they
don’t own much;
Constant travel
and accumulation are opposites.
Third, life
is a kaleidoscope of new experiences
Punctuated
only by the now - this moment.
It seems
like we are worlds apart.
It’s a play
between
Security of
home and the uncertainty of the next stop,
The familiar
and the unknown,
Everyday and
seasonal,
Routine and different,
Limited and boundlessness.
Makes you
wonder;
Which is the
richer experience?
Rootedness
or rootlessness?
