Words that caught me: I is for Intention

One of the most important choices we have to make as adults,
Is on the traditions we choose to honour and celebrate.

Why is this important?

Because that’s how we transfer our values and wisdom to the next generation.

When you celebrate and honour something, you are basically saying:
This is important to me.
This is something I believe in.
These are my values.
This is what I want you to know about me.
This is what I practice, honour and celebrate.
This is what i'd love to see you teach to your own.

The challenge we face this festive season,
And in every tradition we choose to celebrate,
Is being conscious and intentional,
On what we are honouring and transmitting.

The challenge is in recognizing that the festival itself is just a ritual,
And like all rituals, it loses its effectiveness,
If we fail to properly capture its meaning.

This challenge has grown even bigger
With our highly commercialized world.

It’s very easy for us to forget that Christmas is about…
Family and the love that binds us together;
Sharing and cultivating a generous spirit;
Rediscovering our commonalities - our one-ness - as human beings;
Recognizing and appreciating the sacrifices we make for each other;
Celebrating the promises we have kept;
Being thankful of the blessings that came our way;
Looking at today with the excitement and joy of a child;
And filling our souls with buckets of hope!

Challenge yourself this season
To look beyond the dining and wining; the going out and having fun;
To rise above the festival mood;
And wrap this joyful tradition with meaning.

Challenge yourself to become more intentional about...
What you are celebrating.
What you are honouring.
What you are transmitting.

Help humanity and future generations
Maintain the joy and meaning of Christmas
By celebrating and honouring it...with intention!

Psst:
Last Christmas we wrote a series of 18 posts on this blog, under the title ‘Re-living Christmas: Cherished moments and memories’. They celebrate and honour the memories that live in our minds and soul. It’s prove that our parents and those before them transmitted something meaningful and special. It’s now your turn. Do it with intention.
