Words that caught us: W is for Wayfinding (Part 5)

Now that we know our jar,

And the stuff inside it, (Part 1, 2, 3 & 4),

It's time to go out,

And do some interesting stuff.

Specifically, it's time to go hunting!

Here’s the thing:

‘Researchers have discovered

That it takes 5 positive bits of information

To overcome the impact of 1 negative bit.’

Apparently,

“Negative information is like velcro,

It sticks.”

And,

“Positive information is like Teflon,

It slides away.”

Meaning,

If we want to remain positive and optimistic,

If we want to sustain our mojo and enthusiasm,

If we want to stay inspired and cheered up,

If we want to find some enduring motivation

For taking action,

Then, we have remember, the ratio is 5:1

It’s not a chance thing.

It’s a conscious and deliberate hunt.

And it’s not an occasional,

‘If-and-when-we-need-it’ kind of hunt.

It’s laying out a feast, each and every day!

It means sharpening our abilities to see

And notice,

The blessings and miracles in our lives,

And being grateful for them.

It means watching the kaleidoscope

And seasonality of life,

With amusement and wonder,

Rather than with worry and anxiety.

It is in remembering that,

Most of the beautiful things in life

Are price-less and free!

A sun kissed nose and sandy toes,

Breezy evenings and starry nights,

Chirruping birds and singing crickets,

A leisurely walk and an intimate kiss –

They are all free,

And waiting in the wings!

It is about building, joining

And participating,

In communities of positivity

And passion,

In the full knowledge that,

Enthusiasm is infectious,

Optimism is contagious

And inspiration is, more often, caught,

Than self-generated.

It means reaching out and connecting

With others,

In the knowledge that,

We can’t heal this old world alone,

And we can’t solve every problem, on our own,

And that tough times become more difficult,

When we isolate ourselves.

It is in appreciating the liberating power

Of action,

And choosing to ride

A horse that’s going somewhere,

Rather than one that is motionless.

It is in acknowledging that,

Although hope is eternal,

It, nevertheless, needs fuel

To keep it aflame,

And that fuel is all around us,

For us to gather, leverage and optimize.

Our job, therefore,

Is to be effective bearers of light -

People, who not only carry it,

But also, follow it,

And allow it to shine!

Consciously, deliberately

And persistently,

Hunt the good stuff, 5:1!

Keep that ratio in your mind,

Always!

Let’s go hunting, shall we?
