Short Story of the Fisherman's Catch

a good customer of ours
called in the other day
asking
'what is this thing
you are calling
Saturday's Fisherman's Catch
in your Easter Offer?'.

at first
we were a little baffled
co'z no one had ever asked that before.

but then we realized
that
we have never really told
our guests
the true story
which is this:

there are people
who make a living
through fishing.
We call them
men-of-fish.
when the sun is up,
they tell sea tales
and mend their nets.
in the evening,
they get into dug-out wooden canoes
and roll to the sea...
to cast their nets -
much like a suitor
stringing out a love song.

in the early morning, they go to the sea again
to collect their catch...
which they bring to the local market...
direct and fresh.
oh my!
you should see how they grin
as they heave their woven baskets
filled with fish.

and if you are there
to receive them,
you will be gifted
with the sight
of the day's largest prize -
and
perhaps
carry it home.

and that's the short story
of the Fisherman's Catch
that we are offering
for Easter Saturday.

it is a beautiful story
chronicling a labour of love,
for sea which supports the fish,
for the fish whose taste we crave,
for the men-of-fish who have learnt to soothe the sea,
and for the guest who loves fish
so that the men-of-fish can live and carry on soothing the sea!
