Flipping your flaws and showing off your light

Renee Airya is a former fashion model.

She underwent a massive brain surgery at age 29 for a life-threatening tumor that had been un-diagnosed for 15 years.

Only for her to wake up to what most people would consider a nightmare - her facial nerves had been cut and her face 100% paralyzed on the right-hand side.

There was no medical cure.

But somehow, she managed to get her face muscles working again.

Her surgery was in 2004.

She started talking about her story in 2013. A story about how she tried to hide her flaw…how she was ashamed of it…how she came out of hiding…and how energizing that has made her feel about her life.

Today Renee gives talks on how to “Flip Your Flaws”.

She talks about her personal, emotional, spiritual, and physical journey from paralysis, and encourages people to flip their flaws and use them as a gateway for expressing their sincerity and most unique abilities.

How do you flip your flaws? Renee suggests that you follow the following 6 steps:

First, identify what you believe your flaw is. It might be something physical but more of the flaws are invisible e.g. being stuck and stagnant in our relationships, financial flaws, flaws with anger, flaws with time management etc.

Second, recognize how you judge yourself for having this flaw, and how you judge the flaw itself. Sometimes people are judging themselves for being overweight, but they’re also judging this idea of “overweight.”

Third, recognize how you hide this flaw. This reveals some of the most interesting insights. People will say, “I knew that I did that every day, but I didn’t know I did it because I was trying to hide.”

Fourth, recognize how you feel when you hide this flaw. “For me, when I would hide my face, I would feel really embarrassed. The mere act of hiding actually created more embarrassment.”

Fifth, identify what potential gifts or blessings could be coming through this flaw. This is where the real magic comes in with the flipping of the flaw. Flaws are actually the gateway to your own sincerity.

Sixth, get out of hiding and talk about it. “Coming out of hiding means sharing. Sharing is an instantaneous remedy for shame – that is, when you are sharing consciously, and not from a place of victimhood. The sharing helps you to get ‘unstuck,’ and then you can see what the next steps are.”

“When we are willing to talk about our imperfections, and willing to see those imperfections as something that is beautiful and mysterious, it stops its wounding cycle. It stops the cycle in humanity of, “I need to be perfect in order to be okay”.

Some of the notable quotes by Renee include:

“Flaws are just projected fears…”

“I have learned that if we feel internally imprisoned, no amount of money or outside praise will ever make us feel free. So shatter what no longer matters, get into your glory, share your story and your true colors. True success lives in how we perceive ourselves.”

“When you hide, you create more shame. That means that you are telling yourself that you are more and more unloveable. But when you share, you do allow for the light to shine through the shame. And I firmly believe that we can all become perfect through our flaws.”

“The way we choose to deal with our flaws will actually lead to a life of success, power, and health… or self-destruction, insecurity, and shame… Flaws are a part of human nature.”

“Could it be possible that flaws are the gateways to our sincerity? Could it be possible that flaws are the access points to recover your un-shakeable confidence? Could it be possible that flaws are the golden key to discovering our uniqueness? If you can answer ‘Yes’ to either of those questions, how can you begin today to start expressing yourself with more sincerity in the world?”

“There is so much liberation and so much freedom to be found in sharing your true colors with others, your light, and your shadows.”

“You are not perfect in spite of your flaws, but actually because of them. You don’t need to be pretty or good looking to be beautiful. Beauty is only skin deep, but radiance is eternal.”

We hope this energizes you to flip whatever flaws you have been hiding…and letting the world see your light.
