Words that caught us: G is for Gratitude
This
has been the thanksgiving weekend,
And it’s
good to see the internet awash,
For
once,
With a
positive vibe.
We
would like to keep this vibe going
As we
enter December and the festive season.
Our wish is to turn December 2020
Into a Gratitude
Month,
And
we’d love you to join us.
Why do this?
This
year has been particularly difficult,
And challenging for everyone.
COVID19 has affected all of us,
In one way or another,
And its difficult to ignore the dark cloud floating,
In most of our conversations and interactions.
We
believe most strongly,
That practicing
gratitude, can help us shift perspective
In fundamental
ways –
From feelings of lack and want,
to seeing
that what we have is enough.
From focusing
on the past,
to gearing
up for tomorrow.
From
looking at the present narrowly,
to seeing
the wide spaces ahead of us.
From focusing
on the inconvenience we are in now,
to looking
at the possibilities and opportunity the situation presents.
From focusing
our energies on what we can’t do or control,
to what
we can do and control, here and now.
From feelings
of anger and resentment,
to acceptance, with grace and generosity of spirit.
From being
docile and complaint,
to being
active and optimistic.
From feelings of pain and despondency,
to being invigorated by the potential ahead.
From living each day as an obligation,
to living every day in freedom.
The
world desperately needs this shift in perspective now.
And there’s no better season to rally and leverage this message,
Than
the coming season of giving and renewal.
We’ll
kick off this series
With 10
quotations on gratitude,
That we’ve
found most inspiring.
Next
week, we’ll share with you
Three
forms of gratitude practices,
That
we have learnt in last few weeks.
These
practices have, in turn, inspired us
To
challenge ourselves,
With
a daily gratitude practice
That
we’ll post publicly,
On Facebook,
Instagram and Twitter,
Beginning
1st December 2020,
All
the way to 31st December 2020 –
31 gratitude’s
in all!
We invite
you to join us in this challenge,
Not
only by reading and commenting,
But
also by sharing your own.
We can
do this.
It
all starts with our beliefs and choices.
Now
to the quotes:
"Gratitude
turns what we have into enough, and more.
It
turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order,
confusion
into clarity...it makes sense of our past,
brings
peace for today,
and
creates a vision for tomorrow." Melody Beattie
“Gratitude
fuels upward trajectory.
Gratitude
invites you to climb and throws a rope.
Ingratitude
pulls you down and spits in your face.
Ingratitude
binds you to failure,
hobbles
you with fear, fills you with envy,
and
condemns you to miserable repetition.
Gratitude
enables forward movement
by
revealing opportunity.
Ingratitude
narrows perspective and drains hope.
When
you choose gratitude,
you
experience freedom.” Dan Rockwell
"Acknowledging
the good
that
you already have in your life
is
the foundation for all abundance." Eckhart Tolle
"If
a fellow isn't thankful for what he's got,
he
isn't likely to be thankful
for
what he's going to get." Frank A. Clark
"He
is a wise man
who
does not grieve for the things which he has not,
but
rejoices for those which he has." Epictetus
"Be
thankful for what you have;
you'll
end up having more.
If
you concentrate on what you don't have,
you
will never, ever have enough." Oprah Winfrey
"It
is impossible to feel grateful and depressed
in
the same moment." Naomi Williams
"In ordinary life, we hardly realize
that
we receive a great deal more than we give,
and
that it is only with gratitude
that
life becomes rich." Dietrich Bonhoeffer
"I
truly believe we can either see the connections,
celebrate
them, and express gratitude for our blessings,
or we
can see life as a string of coincidences
that
have no meaning or connection.
For
me, I'm going to believe in miracles,
celebrate
life, rejoice in the views of eternity,
and
hope my choices will create a positive ripple effect
in
the lives of others. This is my choice." Mike Ericksen
"Gratitude
also opens your eyes
to
the limitless potential of the universe,
while
dissatisfaction closes your eyes to it." Stephen Richards
